  • Uku WordPress Theme With New Design Style and WooCommerce Support

First of all we want to wish you a Happy New Years Eve! We hope you will have a nice celebration into the new year, we wish you all the very best for 2017 and that all your wishes and dreams will come true.

We finally finished our work on the new Uku update over the last days and we are super excited to show you the theme update. Our Uku WordPress theme now comes with a beautiful, complete new third design style called “serif” and support for the WooCommerce eCommerce plugin. So now, next to the blog and Magazine options you can also built your online shop with Uku.

    The New Serif Design Style

Uku now comes with three different design styles, the “standard” design (which you can see in the Taupo demo), the “neo” design (see live demo Pirongia) and the new “serif” design style with the brand new demo Ruapuke. For the serif design style we use the Cormorant Garamond Google font and a took a fresh, breathable, minimal design approach in general.

The new WooCommerce shop looks especially beautiful with Uku serif and we also built a new shop front page template for you.

    WooCommerce Support for Uku

In case you are looking for a theme to build an elegant, modern WooCommerce shop with, Uku, with it’s fresh shop design will be the perfect theme for you.

Uku offers a three-column shop layout without sidebar or a two-column shop page with a shop sidebar. To use the shop front page, you just need to create a default page and assign the “Shop Page Template” to it. On the Uku Shop front page you can shop your products in different sections (like latest products, best rated, on sale or featured products), add an About section or big quote and show a section with your latest posts.

Uku serif also offers a big, fullscreen header image options with a slogan text (we will shortly add this option to the other design styles as well). An additional feature is the quick cart button, which open a cart overlay to quickly show your customers their current cart content.

  • Our Uku Theme gets a New Design Style and Second Live Demo

Our Uku WordPress theme gets a new update (version 1.1) today. It comes with optimized theme options and some smaller CSS optimizations and bugfixes, but the best part is a complete new design style option. Now you can choose between the “standard” design style and the new Uku “neo” design style in the theme options. The new style has a fresh, open design. It uses a serif font for titles (the Source Serif Pro Google font). All other text styles use the modern, fresh looking sans-serif font “Poppins”. Most titles are shown on a white background in the Uku neo design style, which brings a light feel to the theme.

    uku-wordpress-theme-designstyle-details

The Overlay area (viewable via the menu button) is a fullscreen area in the new Uku neo design style. Next to the website title and description text is shows your main menu and an optional Off Canvas widget area. The Featured Sections (Top and Bottom) both have a little bit different layout and the Front page About area has a fullwidth image and right-aligned text on the image.

    The New Uku Demo Page

To be able to show you the new design options in the best possible way, we also prepared a new overview demo page for Uku and a new live demo. This way you can easily compare the two different styles. The Uku Taupo live demo shows the Uku standard design style and Uku Pirongia the new Uku neo style. And yes, we are planing to add further live demos and new features and styles for Uku in the upcoming months :)

Both demo files are available to you in the main theme folder (or in the demo folder for Theme Bundle users). So you can import the live demo data and use it as a starting point to build your own website with Uku. You can of course also use all the images we included in the demos.

The New Theme Options in the Dashboard

In addition to the new design style option you can also choose to hide the sidebar on single posts or on the Front page only. To hide the sidebar on pages individually, you can choose the “No Sidebar” page template. You can now also include small CSS snippets directly via the Theme Options panel (under General).

    Your Feedback

We hope you like the new, second design option for Uku as well as the new live demo. We would love to hear your feedback and suggestions for Uku theme optimizations. We are excited to hear your ideas for new theme features and options and we will try to include all your suggestions into theme over time. Just write us a comment!

  • Uku – a super flexible Premium WordPress Magazine Theme with a free Light Version

Yeah, Uku is here! We are super happy to finally release our newest WordPress Magazine, Newspaper, and Blog Theme Uku today. Uku is a bit different from our previous themes. It has a lot more options and flexibility and the greatest thing is, it also has a free light theme version (download on the Uku theme page). The light version is a blog-only theme with a header image option.

    The Front Page

The Uku Premium version shows all the flexibility Uku has to offer. You can create your own, unique Front page in the Customizer with the Uku Front page sections. You can also include your latest posts on the Front page (optional) and include an About section with Social links. In addition, you can filter the posts in the front page post sections using tags. Here is a list of all Front page sections:

    – Featured Slider (max. 6 posts)
    – Featured Top section (with one big left-aligned featured post)
    – 2-column section
    – 3-column section
    – Fullwidth Post
    – Latest blog posts (optional)
    – Featured Bottom section
    – About and Social Links section
    – Featured section on a background color
    – 4-column section
    – 6-column section

    uku-wordpress-magazine-theme_front

All sections are optional, so they won’t show up if they are left blank. Since you can set up your front page in the Customizer, it’s super easy to see what your front page will look like in the Customizer preview as you are building it.

    Header and Slider Options

You can use the Featured slider or alternative an header image in three different designs: boxed, full width or fullscreen. Additionally, you can change the transparency level of the gradient or use a completely transparent background of the image with the color you like.

    uku-wordpress-magazine-theme_slider

Fix-positioned Menu and Off Canvas Area

By default Uku comes with a fix-positioned menu bar, which becomes visible once the visitor starts scrolling down a page. You can choose the color of the menu bar to be light or dark and you can also choose to hide the menu bar completely. Additionally Uku also has an off canvas area (an area hidden by default) showing the main menu and an optional widget area. You can customize the background and text color of your off canvas area.

    Single Posts

You can choose to show a left-aligned or right-aligned sidebar or no sidebar at all. The Featured image also has three options, the default Featured image position, a big Featured image (use a custom field with the values post_class = big-thumb) or no Featured image (custom field post_class = no-thumb). You can also add an intro text to posts with a big Featured image using a custom field with the name of “intro” and your intro text as the value.

The last widget of the sidebar will always stick to the page when a visitor is scrolling down a page. This is a great feature to highlight your newsletter form (using the Mailchimp WordPress plugin).

    The Footer

The footer offers a 4-column Footer menu area as well as a big, one-column advertisement area. Here you can promote your latest product or link to another web project of yours.

    uku-wordpress-magazine-theme_mobile

    The free Uku Light version

For Uku we wanted to create free light theme version because we think it’s a great way to get to know the theme better and an opportunity to use Uku for free as a smaller blog-only theme. The light version does not offer the Front page sections or the slider, but you can add a big Header image with the same layout options the Premium theme slider offers.

    How do you like Uku?

We hope you like the Uku theme and you are excited to start using the theme for your website or blog. Since we plan to add more features and additional live demos with new settings over time, we would love to hear your ideas on how we can improve Uku. The Premium Uku theme also comes with the sample live demo content included. (Note: It’s important to first unzip the main theme folder and only upload the included uku.zip folder to your WordPress installation after you purchased the theme). The detailed Uku theme documentation and a little video tutorial will be available online by tomorrow. Please let us know how you like the Uku theme and tell us your ideas for improvements, bugs you have found or any Uku-related theme question in the comments. We can’t wait to hear from you!

    Image Measurements:
    – Featured images in the slider + and big images on single posts: 1440 x 530 pixels
    – default Featured images: min. width of 1024 pixels
    – Sidebar width 400 pixels
(Please install and run the Regenerate Thumbnail WordPress plugin after installing Uku on already established blogs to prepare the images correctly.)
