# Seth calls it the Dip

> Every time everyone tells me: no, you can’t do that, I know I am close to my goal.

> *— Ben Burgess*

The other day a friend emailed Manuel and me this quote. I think there is a lot of truth in it. And not only when others doubt you. Above all when your own doubts get hold of you and you ask yourself whether you are really doing everything right.

The blog guru Seth Godin describes this moment in his book “The Dip. A little book that teaches you when to quit and when to stick” as the Dip. (You can buy the book at [Amazon](https://www.amazon.de/Dip-Little-Book-Teaches-Stick/dp/1591841666/).)

I know this so-called Dip all too well. When Manuel and I came here to New Zealand, for example, we were anything but sure where this path would take us. And even now we still have moments when we are not sure.

But it is exactly in these moments that you have to encourage yourself. And if you listen to your gut and it tells you: yes, this is exactly the right thing. Then it is. Then you simply have to keep going. Because making dreams come true is certainly no easy goal.

Our big dream has always been to discover the world, to get to know other people and their cultures, and of course to have plenty of adventures. During your studies it is still easy to travel in the semester breaks and to dive into a foreign world for two or three months.

But what if the travel bug and the thirst for adventure have got hold of you so strongly that after your studies you don’t want to plan your career, start a family or build a house, as is expected of you. Don’t get me wrong. I think those are all very honourable goals. But they just aren’t mine.

After all the experiences we have had recently, and everything we have learned, we are now quite certain that we are on the right path.

We feel that at this moment we are in exactly the right place. We have discovered the internet for ourselves and have great fun building our website and our blog and developing new projects. We firmly believe that we can turn our dreams and visions into reality.

So whatever your dreams look like: don’t let anyone, not even your own doubts, tell you that you can’t do it. And make your dreams come true.
