It’s a block theme for blogs and for writing that people actually read to the end. It’s free, and you’ll find it on [wordpress.org](https://wordpress.org/themes/architrave/). ## In short - **Made for reading.** A quiet sidebar, the article on its own sheet, and type that’s easy on the eyes in long texts. - **Your readers decide a few things.** Text size, light or dark, and a focus mode. - **Lots of small details.** Contents lists for long posts, a card for every post format, threaded comments, an archive by year and a calm phone layout. In English and German. - **Your own look, with Vibetiles.** Our free plugin [Vibetiles](https://elmastudio.de/en/vibetiles/) lets you change the design right on the page and share it as a style. A second plugin, [Architrave Extras](https://elmastudio.de/en/architrave-wordpress-theme/#extras), is still in review. ## Why a new theme? It’s our first new theme in years, so it’s a fair question. For what we want to build next, most of it with AI, we needed a *base* we know inside out. So Architrave is what our themes always were: minimal and close to WordPress, the core blocks and the basics, nothing piled on top. What’s different is the time. I have never spent this long on the small details of a theme. Our very first theme was [Ari](https://elmastudio.de/en/ari-wordpress-theme/), back in 2010: a small, quiet theme for blogs. Architrave is the same idea, made for the time of AI. Ari is where we started. Architrave is where we start again. ## Made for reading On the left you have a quiet sidebar with the site’s name, the menu and the search. The article sits on its own sheet, lifted a little from the page. Lines aren’t too long, there’s room between them, and the headings follow a clear order. Comments are threaded, code is easy to read, and the archive lists all your posts by year. It adds styles, fonts, colours and a small panel for your readers, and if you like, you can connect an AI that turns the same dials. Vibetiles grew up in Architrave, but it works on other block themes too. You’ll find all the details in the [Vibetiles post](https://elmastudio.de/en/vibetiles-design-panel/). **What we’re planning:** a small style library here on elmastudio.de. You share a style you made, and others copy it into their own Vibetiles. As soon as it’s through, I’ll add the link here. ## How do I install it? In WordPress, go to *Appearance → Themes → Add New*, search for “Architrave” and install it. You can also download it from [wordpress.org](https://wordpress.org/themes/architrave/). It’s free, under the GPL. All the links are on the [Architrave page](https://elmastudio.de/en/architrave/). ## A theme we’ll keep working on We’re not a theme shop anymore. All our themes are free now, and Architrave is the one we keep working on. It still has a few bugs, and we fix them as we find them. I won’t promise it’s our last theme, but it’s the one we build on, and we’ll look after it for a long time. Next we’ll add more AI features, the useful kind, and we’ll keep it simple.
